It was first built by the Venetians and in the 18th century it was taken over by the Turks. It was used as a prison for a period of time. Akronafplia Fortress (a 15min walk) is situated on the rocky peninsula of Akronafplia. It is the oldest Castle in Nafplio and its lower sections date back to the Bronze Age. Head across to Bourtzi Castle for a view of the city from the sea. The islet of Bourtzi stands at the entrance of the port and has a strong fortress on it. It can be visited by boat from the port of Nafplion. Walk through the picturesque alleys of our city and the cosmopolitan pedestrian street with its excellent shops -one of the best spots in the country. Neraki beach -only 3 km from our home - will reward you with the peace that it offers. Karathona beach (4 km) is located outside of Nafplio, towards the road that leads to Palamidi. Along the coast of Karathona the road is lined with many palm trees, among which there is a large natural parking lot, and the long beach in places consists of small pebbles and sand. There you can taste local delicacies in the many taverns of the area.
